Beware the Ides of March

Seen Or Heard 8 Comments »

as i was walking back to my office today from the studio, the one and only Willie Nelson pops out of his tour bus. He must have recognized my  dumbfounded expression and just came over shook my hand and asked me my name. i think all i uttered was it “it’s a pleasure to meet you”. I was too flustered to ask for a quick photo. He was very gracious and kind to me though and just had the overall demeanor of a very kind man.

There’s a dirty rumour of Norah Jones being in the studio but so far it is just a rumour.

now that would make my week.

Orange Filet Of Tilapia en Papillote
I took a class at the Viking Cooking School nearby and learned several techniques for cooking fish. This is one of them which i just made. Its tilapia with carrots, zucchini, orange zest & juice. The whole things is sealed up in a parchment pouch and baked to perfection. it comes out very aromatic, moist and tasty. I had a few problems but overall rather tasty. A little brown rice and sauteed mushrooms completed the dish.

More Evidence and Drawbacks

So i’ve encountered the first drawback of losing weight. I play in a soccer league to get some exercise and meet people. I’ve played since i was 8 and went into retirement several years ago because i was old and out of shape but since moving  out here thought it would be a good idea to get out there again. Last night was the first game of the spring season and i did alright. The other team sucked and we ended up winning and it was all good. Except for one play where i stepped in front of a fatter guy and tried to put my body in front of the ball that was coming at me about waist high but it flew right by where my belly used to be. BLAST! In retrospect that i was able to get in front of him in the first place was an accomplishment.

And here’s more evidence that my diet works :

White Ain’t Right Gaining Momentum

The Hon sent me a link to this wonderful site http://superpooter.rice.edu/~bk/?p=13

which also contains a link to a CNN article supporting White Ain’t Right.

I’d tend to agree with The Hon it’s not that its carbonated but the high fructose corn syrup. Which also blocks the “I’M FULL” signal to your brain so you tend to overeat with sodas. I love Dr. Pepper and its a shame that i have to avoid it for the most part. ( this weekend i was too lazy to go grocery shopping so i had to make do with some Dr. Pepper which was on hand) . I’ve switched to Diet Coke w/ Lime since the beginning of the year because at least the lime masks the artificial sweetner flavor of aspartame a little. But i really think the sweet tea was the killer i found out that there’s about 1lb of sugar in those canisters of brewed sweet tea. Anyway its almost time for more empty calories. Gotta Run!

Lunch 3/6/06

Crystal was coaxed into trying some of Kevin’s crawfish platter at lunch today. Crystal has a natural aversion to anything with more than 6 legs so she dislikes shrimp and crawfish etc.. (she says it’s because of a scene from the Little Mermaid).

So this is video evidence of her trying a small fried crawfish with a remoulaude sauce.

Click here. ( i know it works in quicktime)

My good friend stine who has been an inspiration to me in many ways.. The past 6 years i’ve found myself wanting to be more like her. She kicks @$$.

anyway she wrote this great post

And she  left some good comments on my previous post.. in response

umm.. i’m keeping the salt.. and i like my cheese.. so i think the reduction in flour and sugar  will have to suffice. White may not be right but sometimes you gotta deal with whitey.

Plus i’m getting some more running in with soccer and playing some tennis weekly so i’m hoping the combination of exercise and watching 2 out of 4 of the white devils will help.. Though i may have to try some of that organic stuff christine mentioned. if i can find it at wild oats here..

i have a 18 ounce steak thawing right now.. guess i can start being more careful tomorrow.
