JERRY: I don’t understand, I made a reservation, do you have my reservation?
RENTAL CAR AGENT: Yes, we do, unfortunately we ran out of cars.
JERRY: But the reservation keeps the car here. That’s why you have the reservation.
RENTAL CAR AGENT: I know why we have reservations.
JERRY: I don’t think you do. If you did, I’d have a car. See, you know how to take the reservation, you just don’t know how to *hold* the reservation and that’s really the most important part of the reservation, the holding. Anybody can just take them.
In general I detest making reservations, perhaps it’s me just not wanting to be tied down to be somewhere at a specific place and time. But a lot of things these days take reservations like a dinner at a nice restaurant, hotels, flights, rental cars, massage appointments, and hair appointments.
I have a good relationship with my hair stylist, I can usually send her a text and get fit into the schedule on the same day, (good relationships nearly always results in great service). But last week I actually made an appointment, 3 days in advance, and they called the day before to confirm it. I arrive in time for my appointment and they asked if I could come back in an hour, apparently there was a scheduling snafu as they booked me in for a 15 minute time slot instead of a 30 minute time slot. I had already waited it out at the office for my hair appointment otherwise I would have gone home already, needless to say what little hair i have is looking a bit shaggy and I was sufficiently irritated that they didn’t catch the snafu when they called to confirm it.
ugh.

Funny I can’t imagine you with a hair out of place, let alone “shaggy”!
